Firefighters and flares

Firefighters dressed in their gear and helmets march during a demonstration, Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 in Paris. Several thousand firefighters marched through Paris on Tuesday to demand a monthly bonus and retirement with full benefits at the age of 55. Firefighters' unions want bonuses of 72 euro (US$92) a month. The protesters let off fireworks and clouds of green, orange and white smoke and sounded sirens and horns as they marched. France has some 36,000 professional firefighters. The inscription on the coffin-shaped placard reads : 'Still hazardous, insalubrious, but not given recognition'. (AP Photo/Michel Euler)
